Tooth Bonding
Tooth bonding is a common dental procedure in which a resin material (color-matched to your teeth) is applied, shaped, and hardened to a tooth’s surface. This procedure can be done to repair damaged or decaying teeth, but can also be used for cosmetic dentistry. Bonding can be used to fill gaps or alter the shape of your teeth for a more aesthetic appearance.
Unlike veneers or bridges that must be custom made, tooth bonding requires little preparation before the procedure as the material is shaped directly on the tooth. This procedure typically does not require anesthetics, unless the affected area requires drilling or is chipped or cracked near the nerve of the tooth. During this procedure, the dentist will roughen the tooth’s surface, apply the bonding material, mold it to your tooth, and harden the bonding with a bright light or laser. This procedure is relatively quick and simple and with proper oral care should last three to ten years.
